First time to see Whales and I took my 8 yo granddaughter with me. The crew were excellent and answered all difficult questions without any fuss. The boat was fast and quiet. All the passenger’s were excellent and a great experience. Because of the view and the amount of whales I cant recommend this enough….More »
EVEN as a veteran whale watcher, Fraser Coast Chronicle photographer Valerie Horton still felt a wave of excitement as she stepped on board the Pacific Whale Foundation’s boat the Ocean Defender recently. Mrs Horton, who was a guest on board the foundation’s Ultimate Ecotour, said it was refreshing to see the look of anticipation from…More »
The thing I really liked about this tour was that the boat was small and fast unlike some of the other tour boats which are enormous and have hundreds of people on board. There was enough room for people to get to see the whales from either side of the boat. Because of the speed we could get to spots where whales had been reported on quite quickly. Whilst the tour was only 3 hours it was plenty of time especially as the best sighting we had was the first where two whales came right up to the boat several times so the videos and photos are great. The guide (Rachel) was knowledgeable and friendly as was the skipper (Scott). I thoroughly enjoyed the trip especially seeing whales up close of course!

We had a wonderful day whale watching with Rachel and Scottie. The Pacific Whale Foundation boat was a great size and we felt like we were right there with the whales. We were fortunate to see lots of whales and they seemed very comfortable with our boat, swimming backwards and…More »
Whale watching with the team from Pacific Whale Foundation was the best experience. We had originally booked with another company but due to boat problems they had to cancel and recommended PWF. I was a bit concerned at going out on such a small vessel but it was perfect. The trip out was fast and fun and we were spotting whales in no time. There was easy to see all around and when two whales came in close, we were practically nose to nose with them! The crew made the whole trip so personal and friendly, and as it was only a small group, it had the feeling of being out with a group of mates for the day. They were not only knowledgeable about the whales but also the other local wildlife and the area. Dolphin sightings were a beautiful bonus on the way back! Because the boat was small, they were also able to go in close and show us Fraser Island, I think that will have to be our next place to explore. Best day, would certainly go with them again.

Janet Fitzgerald said…We had a fantastic time. The young people were informative and so pleasant. Being as they do research on the whales and all the money goes back in to that it is a real reason to go on this particular trip. It was a beautiful day but quite windy and that was probably the only thing that I would complain about as it was extremely cold when travelling out and coming back. One tip it may be a beautiful sunny day but please take something warm to put on. We saw heaps of whales and because of the type of boat they could get closer in to shore than other trips.More »
