Virtual Whalewatch (Grades 4-8)

Hervey Bay Virtual Whalewatch provides a simulated whale watching experience complete with sights and sounds, expert narration, and interactive educational activities. The program experience will take approximately one hour, and can be utilised for whole-class instruction or individual student participation (each on their own devices).

Parental supervision and assistance is recommended. To participate at home, be prepared with the following before you tune in: metal forks (more than one size if you have); string; metal hanger (if you have one); pencil with eraser end (does not need to be sharpened); balloon (if you have one).

Join our Education Manager live from her home as she teaches about plankton and how small but mighty important they are. This session will be fun for the whole family and include an activity you can do at home. Parental supervision and assistance is recommended. To participate at home, be prepared with the following before you tune in: tall container filled with water (ideally a pitcher), cork (or similar small, lightweight object), tape or glue, miscellaneous materials like: paperclips, coins, metal washers, toothpicks, pipe cleaners, yarn, magnets, popsicle sticks, string, etc. (be creative – anything goes for this activity!).

The Alfaguara (Blue Whale) Project strives to guarantee the long-term existence of endangered blue whales in one of the most important feeding grounds for the species in the southern hemisphere. The project also promotes the development of sustainable, community-based marine ecotourism and the effective conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems of Chiloe Island in southern Chile.

The Alfaguara (Blue Whale) Project has been internationally recognized for its contribution to the scientific knowledge of the species. In addition to Pacific Whale Foundation, project sponsors and supporters include Marisla Foundation, Global Greengrants Fund, Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, Cetacean Society International, and the Chilean Navy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
